Fire-retardant boards, also known as high-pressure laminates (HPL), are decorative, fire-resistant building materials defined as Decorative High-pressure Laminates. They feature diverse surface colors, textures and excellent physical properties, making them ideal for both interior and exterior applications.

HPL is produced by impregnating decorative paper and kraft paper with melamine and phenolic resins respectively, followed by drying, cutting, stacking and curing under high temperature and pressure. Under 150°C (300°F) and 1,430 psi pressure, the layered materials are pressed for about one hour. The final process includes trimming, sanding and quality inspection to ensure consistent performance.

Fire-retardant boards are available in various base substrate:

Fire-retardant laminates are widely used in commercial and public spaces, including chain stores, hotels, healthcare facilities, offices and urban renewal projects. They are commonly found in kitchen countertops, wall cladding, cabinet doors and lab work surfaces, offering fire resistance, heat resistance, wear resistance, water resistance, stain resistance and mold-proof properties.
